Girraween Taxi

Girraween is located 30 kilometers west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Holroyd and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region.

Meaning Place of Flowers Girraween is an Aboriginal word, the area had originally belonged to the estate of DArcy Wentworth, who was remembered by the naming of the nearby suburb Wentworthville in his honor. Wentworth had been acquitted on three charges of Highway Robbery , he narrowly escaped a forth charge by declaring he was moving to Botany Bay to serve as an assistant surgeon arriving on the second fleet ship Neptune. He served his role and went on to become the Superintendant of convicts on both Norfolk Island and in Parramatta. Girraween Public School was opened in 1930 and Girraween High School was opened in 1976. The suburb is surrounded by Toongabbie, Greystanes, Pendle Hill and Pemulwuy.
