Elanora Heights is located 27 kilometers north east of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of Pittwater Council and is part of the Northern Beaches region. Elanora Heights comes from an Aboriginal word meaning Home by the water or Home by the sea and heights meaning up high. The name was taken from the geographical location on the hill near the lagoon.
The suburb was born in 1929 as Elanora Heights Estate. While earlier settlements had taken shape in the form of a coal mining camp, in 1920 members of the Royal Sydney Golf Club purchased a large parcel of land which would become Elanora Country Golf Club in 1922, with the name being shorted to Elanora in the late 20th century.
Elanora Heights is now a residential suburb with a few small shops and two golf courses Monash and Elanora Country Club.
