Edmondson Park is located 40 kilometers south west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Liverpool and is part of the Macquarie Fields region.
Named in honor of the first Victoria Cross medal winner for bravery during World war Two John Edmondson, the medal however was awarded to him posthumously as he had been killed in battle in 1941. Miss Gowan Flora MacDonald had suggested the name Edmonson be used to honor the locally born hero. Liverpool council offered no objection, considering it a fine tribute to the local war hero.
The area is surrounded by the suburbs of Horningsea Park, Leppington, Denham Court, Prestons, Ingleburn, Casula and Glenfield. A residential area that is continuing to grow as part of the South West Growth Center the area will be serviced by a railway station on the South West Rail link.
