Drummoyne is located 6 kilometers west of the Sydney central business district, a part of the inner western region it is the administrative centre for the local government area of the City of Canada Bay.
Sitting on a peninsula between Five Dock Bay and Iron Cove, it is surrounded on three sides by the Parramatta River and Sydney Harbour, and has some of the very best water front views. Drummoyne is neighboured by Balmain, Abbotsford and Five Dock, with Russell Lea the only adjacent suburb by land.
In 1853 William Wright a merchant, whaler and sealer bought land in the northern part or the area, his property was bounded by present day roads Victoria and Lyons.
