Coasters Retreat was first granted to a former soldier of the NSW Army Corps by Governor Gipps in 1842.Coasters Retreat became enclosed by national park after the establishment of the Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park in 1896. In 1914 Bonnie Doon Wharf was constructed by the Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park to provide access for campers and visitors.
