Chatswood West is a suburb separate from Chatswood and is located on the lower North Shore of Sydney 11 kilometres north-west of the CBD. Chatswood is believed to be named after the pet name “Chat” of the second wife of Richard Harnett (a pioneer of the district) and the original “wooded” nature of the area. Some also believe that the real origin of the name is the nickname of his wife ChattieĀ. This is mainly a residential area with some commercial developments on the Pacific Highway.
