The original word for Berala is Bareela meaning a musk duck; reason the area being a swamp attracting many wild birds. Torrington and Sidmouth were other names that followed Bareela when the railway line between Lidcombe and Regents Park was being expanded.
Approaching under the areas of Auburn, it is located 20 kilometres west to the CBD of Sydney. Railway Stations, schools and post offices opened in the years 1912, 1924, 1927. The neighbouring suburbs to the western Sydney suburb – Berala include Auburn, Lidcombe, Chullora, and Regents Park.
