This Sydney suburb named after the Governer of New South Wales, the fourth Earl of Bellmore (1868-1872). The area being originally used for market gardens and orchads was previously known as Dark waters. In 1895, with the introduction of railway, Bellmore got subdivided.
Bellmore saw developments in 1903 and 1907 with the construction of schools and post offices. Another progress was that of an opening of a shopping centre in 1920′s. It features classic examples of art-deco architecture. Bellmore is encircled by Greenacres, Lakemba, Roselands, Belfield, Kingsgrove, Campsie and Clemton Park.
