Located 31 kilometres north to the Sydney CBD, this suburb derived its name from the description of its location. It is situated towards northern Sydney. Being a part of the northern beaches, it sits under local government areas of Pittwater Council.
It was named Pittwater Council by Governor Arthur Phillip in March 1788 after UK’s then PM William Pitt. The first housing was built in 1821 by Patrick Bryan on the site of the Bayview Golf Links off Pittwater Road.
