Ashbury, located 10 kilometres from the CBD, principally consists of residential areas with no commercial centers and small number of shops along side King Street. The name is a combination of two suburb names Ashfield and Canterbury. Its identity changed to Ashbury because of name changing of one school from South Ashfield to Ashbury Public School. The school got opened in 1924 and the name changing event took place in 1926.
The area got partitioned before being home to clans of Darug, Cadigal and Wangal people. After the partition the land was given to Reverend Richard Johnson who was the colonies first chaplain.
